About Us

I’m Bill Murphy, the guy who runs this site. I’ve been a model train fanatic since I was a kid, when my dad bought me my first model train. It was a basic HO scale kit with a simple circle track that my dad mounted on a half sheet of plywood for me.

Nothing fancy, but I played with that train for hours and hours, creating a lifelong love of trains in general, and model trains especially.

Once I “grew up” (got older might be a better way to put it) I had to put the hobby aside for a few years, but once I got the space I built myself a bigger layout.

I’ve started over a few times since then, prototyping different locations and types of track systems, and I’ve experimented with a few different scales.

A few years ago, I decided to build this website to provide helpful information to other model railroaders. A lot of the stuff on the site is meant for less experienced railroaders, but there’s some more advanced stuff as well.

I’m always open to suggestions and questions, so if there’s something you’d like to learn more about or you just want to let me know what you think of the website, send me a message through the contact us page.

I can’t always guarantee a personal response because I get a lot of messages, but if I can’t respond personally I’ll do my best to answer your questions on the site or in my free newsletter.

If you’re not already signed up to receive the newsletter, you can sign up on this page.

And if you want to keep up to date with any new articles that get posted to the website, add our feed to your news reader program and you’ll get updates as soon as new stuff gets added to the site.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you find lots of helpful information here!

Bill Murphy
