Z Scale Beckons..

It's funny how you can overlook something for so long and all of a sudden it just clicks into place for you.

I was poking around on www.ztrains.com today - which is an excellent place to learn more about Z scale model trains, by the way - and something jumped out at me.

One of the more unique features of working in Z scale is duality of the size. On one hand you can have an interesting layout in a very modest space. On the other hand you can model incredibly vast scale scenes in a medium to large space.

I've always looked at Z scale layouts as interesting but too small for my tastes. You see, I've always thought of Z scale as a way to get the same layout in less space.

For some reason, it's never really clicked for me that I could use the same amount of space for a Z scale railway as I do for my HO scale and get far more into the same space.

That one simple paragraph has got the gears turning for me - I'm imagining all the things I could add to my layout if I rebuilt everything in Z scale.

Boy, my wife's going to be upset if I suddenly decide to start over from scratch ;-)
