Great Source For Railroad Scenery

I don’t get nearly as much time to spend on my train layout as I would like, but it’s partly my own fault. I often get caught up in surfing the internet, looking at interesting new products or trying to find pictures of people’s layouts for ideas that I can use.

I suppose I would be better off using that time on my own equipment, but every now and then I find something that makes the time worthwhile.

I came across a great source for model railroad scenery today – called Timberline Scenery. Their website is at www.timberlinescenery.com.

They’ve got all kinds of stuff – coniferous trees, deciduous trees, ground cover – and if the pictures on their website are any indication, it looks like good stuff.

The product that really interested me is called “Rock Rite.” It’s a system for coloring plaster rock that apparently doesn’t need a lot of mixing.

I’m not the most artistic person and getting my scenery painted to look real is one of the things I struggle with. I’m going to pick up some of this Rock Rite and see if it works as well as they say. If I can get results like this picture I’ll be pretty happy.

It was apparently tested by the Denver HO Club in the Colorado Railroad museum. If someone from the club is reading this (or if you’ve maybe used this product yourself) I’d be interested to hear how it worked out for you. I’d appreciate it if you’d leave a comment with your results – good or bad.

Now, the other reason I wanted to mention the Timberline Scenery website is that they’ve got a gallery of customer photos, which I assume are using their products.

Photos of nice layouts are always inspirational (and can be a good source of ideas too) so here’s the link to the gallery:
